Alice Walton’s Rocking W Ranch
Producing The Cutting Edge of Cutting Horses
Located in Mineral Wells, Texas, Alice Walton’s Rocking W Ranch is one of the few Rocking Ranches that concentrate on breeding, raising, training, competing, and selling cutting horses. The ranch was founded by horse enthusiast and philanthropist Alice Walton, the only daughter of Sam Walton, founder of the world’s largest retailer, Wal-Mart. Rocking W Ranch features horses for sale, broodmares, and world-class cutting horses that have brought major victories in cutting competitions, including championships in the Western States Open and the NCHA Summer Spectacular.
The Champions of Rocking W Ranch
Rocking W Ranch is home to many champion mares, including Boon San Kitty and her dam, Boon San Sally. Both horses are recipients of awards and recognitions given by the NCHA in previous years. Recognized as one of the leading broodmares in cutting, Boon San Sally forms part of the solid groundwork for the Rocking W Ranch’s breeding program, having produced offspring that has generated over $700,000. To pay tribute to the accomplishments of Boon San Sally, Alice Walton erected a bronze statue of Boon San Sally with Boon San Kitty erected in front of her barn.
Boon San Kitty has also proven herself to be a swift competitor when she won the 2006 NCHA Summer Spectacular Open Classic Competition. She was the first horse to win the Classic for two consecutive years; 2004 NCHA Horse of the Year; and the Western Horseman Cup Champion.
